Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga is the science of keeping up, in spite of all odds, at any cost. It is not just to make life possible, but to make the impossible possible. It is not for the ego, but for those who are strong and can roar like lions through all the obstacles to reach their excellence every day. It takes grit, commitment, and consciousness within one’s self to achieve the purpose of the self, to vibrate “God IS within me”.

Yoga is not what people tell you, what you read in books, or the practice that you do. Yoga is the self-realization of respect, dignity, divinity and grace. It is all you. And it is all within you.

Kundalini Yoga is the yoga of awareness. It is precise and scientific. The practice gives an intuitive response to life’s challenges with greater flexibility, confidence and stamina. It supports an experience our spiritual identity.

Yoga’s therapeutic effect enables the glands to secrete in proportion to each other and strengthen the nervous system which may have been compromised and weakened by substances. It balances the neuron patterning of the brain that affects addictive behavior. Yogi Bhajan said, “Kundalini Yoga gives a person back their own strength, it gives them discipline, changes the chemistry of the blood, stimulates the glandular system and also teaches a person to relax.” Meditation promotes clarity of thought and Kundalini Yoga provides the discipline to carry it out.

Kundalini Yoga is dynamic, profound and positively changes behavior, and it heals exponentially during the recovery process with three components. During an exercise, one incorporates 1) breath, 2) physical posture, 3) mantra or sound repetition for concentration. When all three components are applied within a 1-3 minute exercise, the healing process is greatly accelerated.  Specialized sets are designed to eliminate one’s dependence on external fulfillment by creating greater awareness and self-control.

Breath of Life

Breathing is life.  It defines us. Most people have shallow and irregular breathing habits.  When anxious, fearful, or stressed; we tend to breathe in a very rapid, short and shallow pattern.  A primary nutrient for the brain is oxygen.  We are a product of the breath.  It is the first priority to life and the last focus to the man on his deathbed.  Yet, in  our everyday lives, we easily forget this and take breath for granted.

We can develop mental self-control through regulated and conscious breathing. When blood oxygen levels are higher, brain activity increases. When practicing Kundalini Yoga, the blood becomes super-oxygenated. This increases brain cell metabolism, facilitates increased brain activity and benefits the nervous and glandular systems. For this reason, great emphasis is put upon the breath.

Mantras are used in Kundalini Yoga to create a rhythm with the breath. This trains us to breathe slowly and deeply. With joining the breath, mind and mantra, a feeling of well-being is easily achieved. The vibrational energy of mantras can reshape consciousness, reprogram cellular memories, and bring spiritual awareness.

The way we breathe affects our state of mind.   It is linked to our thoughts and emotions. With awareness and mastery of our breath we improve health and vitality, better manage our emotions and more easily regulate our moods. Over time, we develop mental focus and a feeling of connectedness. This serves to decrease our physical and emotional reactions to stress; thus protecting us from the vulnerability of addictive behavior.

 As thoughts constantly come to you from the intellect, so do desires. Anytime you desire something and want to get rid of that impulse, inhale and hold the breath. The moment you do, thoughts and desires stop; the impulse is cut. The way to control thoughts is by controlling the breath. Every conscious breath is one gained.  Only you can control your breath. When you do not control your breath consciously, every breath you breathe unconsciously is wasted.  Each person’s life is measured in breaths. Normally you breathe fifteen breaths per minute. If you take one breath per minute, you can live fifteen times longer.  ~Yogi Bhajan

If you keep your food light, you will be healthy and live long. You are what you eat. The value of food is great. Regulate the metabolism through a healthy diet. Food is designed so that the poisons of the body are released and your energy is not wasted. Glands are guarding your health. If the glandular system secretes to balance the bloodstream, combined with specific exercises to stimulate the blood to all the body tissues, the very urge, the need to overdo anything can be eliminated.

Diet and Nutrition

Our physical bodies have the potential to be in perfect balance, health and harmony. What we put into our bodies has a vibration and physical effect on all of its systems, as well as our emotions, mind, and our spirit.

Before allopathic medicines, food was the main source of medicine. Hippocrates said it well: Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food. We looked upon the food we ate as the source of continued good health and as the cure for our ailments. We used the properties of common foods and herbs to purify our bodies, correct imbalances, remove the sources of disease, and heal damaged tissues.

With the development of modern science, the majority of our medicines are synthetically manufactured with little relation to the natural remedies of the past. Often these medications are only effective in masking the symptoms of disease; they do not cure the underlying causes of disease. We have learned to rely on them to relieve our symptoms rather than on the healing properties of foods and herbs to both prevent and heal disease.

Good Habits

Developing good eating habits that are nourishing and sustaining are the foundation of a healthy lifestyle and happy emotional outlook. Blessing your food, feeling grateful and eating when you are hungry instead of out of habit will help you feel lighter and more balanced.

• Bless your food, in the preparation and before eating; be grateful.
• Eat when you are hungry, instead of out of habit.
• Eat smaller meals, about 2 fistfuls of food at each meal for the digestive system and metabolism ease.
• Avoid eating when stressed, emotionally upset or overtired.
• Sit down to eat.
• Chew your food well; digestion starts with saliva.
• Avoid diluting digestive ‘juices’ by drinking during meals. Drink one hour before a meal and two hours following the meal.
• Eat regularly.
• Learn to eat for health and improve well-being; avoid compulsive patterns.
• Digestion can be inhibited by complex meals; different foods are digested at different rates and require different enzymes.
• Allow the body to rest at regular intervals; e.g. one day a week of a lighter food regimen or fast on fruits, lemon water, etc.
• Eat what can be eliminated within 18 hours for women and 24 hours for men; regular elimination is essential.

Avoid problem foods, one man’s food is another man’s poison. Generally, if one has excellent health, they will digest most healthy foods. Some of us do not have that capacity and are unable to efficiently break down and metabolize even healthy foods or have allergies to them. Avoid foods which we may be sensitive too.

You can eat as many healthy foods as you like, but you have to digest it. Your stomach doesn’t have teeth. You have to chew your food, not gulp it. God made such beautiful, juicy glands in your mouth. So you can swallow pasta in a gulp? Nobody has the right to do that.

The Science of Humanology

The Science of Humanology is the study of our spiritual and human nature which aims to promote successful realization of our human potential in its excellence. Humanology identifies the physiological, psychological, sociological, and spiritual causes of addictions and other related behaviors.

Overview of the components addressed:

Parental Phobias

These are the fears which parents have imposed on the innocence of a child. By letting go of blaming our parents and others, we take ownership for our fears. We begin to regain a sense of self and can more effectively address the healing of the fears our parents projected on us as children.


The three basic fears are: being unloved, being abandoned, and death. These fears keep us from our True Self. We are overwhelmed by our fear of the unknown. The inner self-becomes known through innocence and honesty.


Self-hatred is manifested as the destructive habits that affect us individually and those closest to us. Taking ownership for our behaviors allows us to develop new positive habits and replace the old self-destructive ones that may be related to our addictions.

Self-Defeating Mental Attitudes

These are negative attitudes about the self that become embedded in the subconscious. This mind-set may include: “I don’t care,” “It is too much work,” and “They won’t like it.” These are the attitudes of self-doubt which create inner conflict…perhaps when we do something wrong to feel right. As we gain greater mental clarity, we begin to identify and address our self-defeating mental attitudes and can begin to break the patterning and formulate new, healthy empowering self-concepts.

Touching The Human Spirit

Reaching Out with Kindness and Compassion

Uncovering the pain of the past isn’t what connects the wounded personality to our original identity. Revealing our history doesn’t make us whole. It is the practice of releasing the past and reclaiming our essential spiritual nature that purifies us. We then can become whole again. When we talk of our past experiences, we are still sharing our emotions through our intellect. Instead, when we share the techniques that liberated us from the cycle of our dramas and emotions we are sharing the wisdom we’ve used to heal ourselves.

When we deal with life emotionally and sensually, we often defend ourselves by wearing a mask. It takes courage to live to our potential. We can then live in the world and share hope and purity in alignment with our original identity.

From the viewpoint of the addictive personality, we might have read the wisdom of others, but have been unable to integrate this wisdom into our personality. Making these changes requires personal experience. To read about wisdom is nothing. To experience wisdom becomes knowledge. Through this you learn to prevail through whatever comes at you.

Each individual is responsible for his own actions. Addictions do not excuse one’s behaviors. The habits that form the foundation of the addictive personality are learned early in life. Developing this understanding is helpful to release this personality in order to serve a higher mission and purpose in life.

Through our efforts to bring balance and harmony to the physical body our mind gains clarity and our destiny emerges. When we meditate we may be able to identify when we broke away from our destiny. We can strive to re-align to a deeper purpose, to live free of the past, and not to fear the future.

Spiritual Counseling & Destiny

Spiritual counseling is about destiny. Through the technology of Kundalini Yoga, the addictive personality is released and we develop the resources that enable us to protect ourselves from the pressures of life. When counseling, we help others experience the existence of their original identity, so that they can drop the addictive personality with its old habits and formulate positive habits with conscious awareness.

Guiding others through the challenges of life, without first learning to work with our own mind, leaves our unconscious habits to run the show. We must do our own work to be a skillful counselor.

Counseling includes another aspect of knowledge: we must be clear that we are drinking from the cup of true wisdom and remember the source that fills the cup for us. This brings us humility.
